Kitchen Cabinet Makeover: Easy DIY Chalk Furniture Paint

What You Need:
  • 2 tablespoons of Calcium Carbonate Powder
  •  2 tablespoons of Plaster of Paris
  • 2 Tablespoons of water
  •  2 cups of latex paint in a satin finish
  •  SC Johnsons Paste Wax

What To Do:
Mix 2 tablespoons of Calcium Carbonate Powder and 2 tablespoons of Plaster of Paris into 2 Tablespoons of water and mixed well. I then added it to 2 cups of latex paint in a satin finish and mixed until smooth.  It should create a smooth consistency. If your paint seems lumpy just keep stirring.

To paint the cabinet I used grey in a satin finish as my first coat.  I then used a cream for the second or top coat.

Cabinets Before:

First Coat {Grey}:

Cabinet After:

I used 160 grit sandpaper to distress the finish and expose the dark grey color underneath.

I waxed it with SC Johnsons Paste Wax and buffed it with a soft rag to get a shine & add a protective coat. This step is extremely necessary as the chalk paint will continue to leave a chalky residue if touched.

 Happy Painting!
